When I was growing up, video games were far simpler than they are today. I was an original Nintendo kid. Super Mario Bros and Zelda were revolutionary in our world in those days. A short time after Nintendo changed gaming forever, they released a game called Contra. In the game, you would go through levels fighting and shooting the enemy while, of course, trying to avoid getting shot yourself. I vividly remember almost dying on many occasions, and hitting the reset button on the gaming console to simply start the game over."
Have you ever found yourself in a time where you wish you could just hit the reset button in your life? Have you ever just needed a fresh start? A redo? I would imagine on some level that we all have. Most of the time, we are living in the consequences of decisions we made that did not produce the results we had imagined. None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes. We make good and bad choices. We are foolish sometimes. We behave badly and say things that are hurtful. The simple reality of life is that the quality of your life will ultimately be determined by the quality of your choices. The beauty of this is if you are not happy with your life right now, you can hit the reset button and create a fresh start. Anyone and everyone can change their life by changing their choices. Even greater, God will help you along the way!
Psalms 51:10 (Message) — “God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.”
I have always loved this scripture. This is part of a passage of scripture that shows King David crying out to God after he has sinned greatly, and his sin has caused great damage in his life and the lives of the people around him. No matter how dire the situation is, you can call out to God, and God will respond. He is ready to empower you into new beginnings. In fact, that is what God is all about. He is the God of fresh starts and new beginnings. The reference to a Genesis week speaks of a period or season of time of God-given new beginnings. I believe this is truly one of the greatest promises God has given to us. The question is, “Are you going to respond to it?”
Right here, right now, you can change your life. You can ask God for a Genesis week and start making Godly, peace-filled decisions. If you are not happy with your life, hit the reset button, but this time, truly start over. Start by living the way God wants you to live. I tell our church all the time, “If you want God’s results, do it God’s way.” God’s way leads to joy, fulfillment and peace and your future can be filled with those great gifts. It’s time for a fresh start!
